Tweeten lets you easily download videos posted to Twitter, and the app updates the Tweetdeck back end automatically - no more refreshing a web page when there are new features or fixes. If you are technically inclined, you can add your own customer Cascading Style Sheets to further tweak the interface. It also is more customizable than Tweetdeck, allowing you to switch to either round or square avatar images, change the font size or set up wider columns. It's basically a slicker front end for the web version of Tweetdeck, giving it a much more pleasing, modern design and taking it out of your web browser. But if you're looking for a client with great column support, Tweeten is a good choice. That makes it hard to recommend at its full $19.99 price, but it is on sale right now for $7.99.Īs I mentioned, the app version of Tweetdeck is not worth the download because of its lack of updates (the web version of Tweetdeck works just fine). ![]() Twitterific doesn't let you see your full activity, so you can see new followers, retweets or favorites. Also, It's Texas-grown: The developer, Tapbots, is based in Flower Mound, north of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. But frankly, it's worth every penny at full price. Tweetbot costs $9.99 and occasionally goes on sale for half that. While it doesn't give you access to the statistics or analytics that are available on the Twitter web page, it will show you your activity stream so you can who liked or retweeted a tweet and who followed you. Skillfully used, this can help make Twitter much less annoying. The app has nice set of tools for managing your timeline, including the ability to mute keywords, hashtags, tweets sent from specific clients or individuals. Or, if you prefer, you can expand it into multiple columns like Tweetdeck. It can be set up to display in the simple, one-column format used in the original Twitter app. Because it syncs between them, you can stay up to date with your Twitter activity regardless of the device you're using. This is by far my favorite Twitter client, both on the Mac and on iPhones and iPads. Mac Twitter users can now explore some very good alternatives. If you want state-of-the-art Twitter, you're better off looking at software from other developers.įor that reason, the death of the Mac version of Twitter is a blessing in disguise. It also didn't keep up with many of the new features that were found in third-party apps - which is typical of all of Twitter's official clients.
